Frequently Asked Questions
How much tutoring do I need?
Because some people need more time to prepare for a standardized test and others need less, we don’t have a set number of hours we recommend. Instead, after a student takes a diagnostic test, we work with the family to determine how much private tuition will be useful.
When it comes to academic tutoring, different students benefit from different frequencies of sessions. Strong students who’ve fallen behind due to absence frequently catch up after a few sessions. Students who need to keep an ongoing eye on a class usually do well with one tutoring session per week. Students who must learn study skills or refresh old material to keep up with a class often benefit from two sessions per week.
How long are sessions?
We find that 90-minute sessions are optimal for most students, but we’re flexible if a family prefers sessions that are shorter or longer.
Will I pay an initiation fee or buy additional materials?
No. A student’s first test prep meeting includes, free of charge, all the materials he or she will need. For SAT prep students, that material includes a copy of Flagship’s SAT book.

Yes, almost definitely. Give us a call to talk about what you need, and it’s very likely we’ll have a tutor who’s an expert in your particular area.
Can Flagship help my child in elementary or middle school?
Middle school, definitely. For elementary school students, call us to tell us a little more about your child’s situation. We will usually be able to help, but in certain circumstances we might recommend a developmental learning specialist or a special education teacher instead.
Can Flagship meet online?
Yes, we use online whiteboard and video conferencing software to create a face-to-face experience for the student.
